Pushkar Railway Network
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pushkar Railway Network provides broad gauge rail transport in the Ajmer district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. The railway network connects Jaipur, Ajmer and Marwar in the Pali district, and also Ajmer with Bhilwara. Pushkar, as well as Ajmer, are considered Hindu sacred cities, and are also major tourist destinations of India, justifying the rail network hub. Services to Delhi and other cities in Rajasthan (Pink City Express), Haryana and Gujarat area also available, notably the Shatabdi Express, about 7 hours between Ajmer and Delhi. Ironically despite the name, the nearest railway station to Pushkar is 11 kms away in Ajmer. The services derive their name from the Pushkar Camel Festival when and estimated 50,000 camels are brought to the town for trade.
