Push the Talking Trash Can
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Push the Talking Trash Can is a radio controlled robot which makes occasional rounds throughout Tomorrowland inside the Magic Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida USA; Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure park in Anaheim, California USA, Hong Kong Disneyland park as well as Disneyland Paris Resort outside Paris, France and Tokyo Disneyland in Japan.
Push is an actual Tomorrowland waste container and is so named because of the large word "PUSH" found on either flap. The bin’s regular steel liner hides the radio control system and plastic trash bag should a guest peer inside.
The robot is discreetly operated by one "Cast Member" (Disney's wording for park employees) in plainclothes. The transmitter is hidden inside a large gym bag, and the robot contains a voice processor which changes the operator's voice to a high-pitched, nasal register. Since they are so close to the robot, they are able to make Push interact directly with guests.
Exact technical details are uncertain, but the robot appears to be propelled with the transmission, wheels and tires of a mobility scooter, the type of which Disneyland and Walt Disney World rent in large numbers. Disney has extended the technique and technology to audio-animatronic characters such as the Muppet Mobile Lab, Lucky the Dinosaur, and Wall-E
A similar attraction, Pipa the Talking Recycling Can exists at Disney's Animal Kingdom in the Rafiki's Planet Watch themed area and tries to encourage guests to recycle.
There is also Wes Palm a talking Palm Tree, located at the front entrance to Disney's Animal Kingdom
