Purse party

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The purse party is a type of party plan marketing scheme wherein a party is held in a hostess' home for the purpose of buying and selling handbags. It is modeled after similar functions where such products as Tupperware, Pampered Chef, and PartyLite candles are sold. Indeed, it is not unusual for combination parties to be held, where a wide variety of such merchandise is made available. Purse parties differ, however, from these other parties in that the merchandise at purse parties nearly always consists of knock-offs (or counterfeits) of popular name-brand purses such as Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Kate Spade.

Because much, if not all, of the merchandise at purse parties is counterfeit, and because most of it is smuggled into the country from abroad, purse parties have become of interest to law enforcement.
