Purin (Sanrio)

Purin is a golden retriever dog character first introduced by the Japanese toy company Sanrio in 1996.


Purin (or Pudding Dog) was born on a sunny day in April 16th 1996. He is a good natured golden retriever dog. Purin lives in his own basket at his owner's house. His trademark is his brown beret that is always on top of his head. Purin's interest is collecting shoes, which includes his owner's father's leather shoes, his owner's mother's sandals, etc. He likes to hide them.

Purin loves drinking milk and eating soft food and pudding that his mother makes. He also spends a lot of time sleeping or hanging out with his best friends. Purin's best friends include a hamster called Muffin, a mouse named Scone, and a bird who loves to steal Purin's hat.

He was twice voted Most Popular Sanrio Character in Strawberry News Magazine, a magazine published by Sanrio.

Purin performed in the Sanrio musical - Happiness Land, which toured around Asia in 2007. Purin's was portrayed as the The Knight of Happiness Land and is described as humorous, compassionate but careless.


He's portrayed as an accidental main villain on the webcomic Hello Cthulhu, though he retains his good nature.

Muffin
This smart little hamster is Purin's best friend and playmate. He will eat just about anything and loves to crack open nuts and store them in his cheeks. Muffin also enjoys hiding inside Purin's beret.

Scone
This cute little mouse met Purin through Muffin. He likes to hide in the clover and find four leafed one's to pick for his friends, since he is naturally lucky.

Bird Friend
This little birdie likes to perch on Purin's head. He secertly likes it when the wind blows Purin's beret off, so he can retrieve it!
