[edit] What does Punto in Aria translate as?
I am working on the assumption that Punto in Aria is an Italian name.
Punto is one of those words that can mean a lot of different things depending on context: you can score a punto in some games; when telling the time it means o'clock; and in needlework it is commonly translated as stitch.
Aria means air or tune again depending on context.
- Point in Air – a literal and direct translation.
- Stitch in Air – in context of lace-making maybe a more useful translation.
- Stitches in Air – this would be Punti in Aria which raises the question of whether the point in question is in fact the needle not the stitch, (although that would be the feminine form Punta)
Of course i only have access to a modern Italian dictionary, not a 17th century one! -- pcrtalk 02:16, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
