[edit] Copyvio

A part of this article was taken from Punti-Hakka Clan Wars and Taishan County. If anyone can find out which part, please rewrite it so it's no longer a copyvio. I'll come back once the author has emailed me. - Mgm|(talk) 09:00, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 新界原居民

Mcy_jerry added the link to zh:新界原居民 as the Chinese equivalent to this page, but I question whether this is appropriate, as Punti is a far narrower term, ethnically speaking.

  1. 新界原居民 under HK law just refers to anyone whose male-line ancestors lived in a village in the NT before 1898. Hence original residents of 沙頭角, which is a Hakka village, are considered 新界原居民 and are represented in the 鄉議局. [1]
  2. Now the 新界原居民 page links back to both here and Indigenous inhabitant, which is probably not good
  3. I'd nominate zh:廣府民系 as the more appropriate equivalent of "Punti", unless anyone has a better suggestion

The edit comment for reverting my change states well, you're right. but punti is used for hong kong inhibitants, but not those outside hk. the original one may no be a good one, but must be better, i suppose.). However, this isn't accurate: look at Punti-Hakka Clan Wars, for example:
Hakka-Punti Clan Wars (土客械鬥) refers to battles or conflicts between the Hakka and the Punti in Guangdong
And in any case, even if you consider that usage mistaken, it's not good to go on giving people the mistaken impression that "Punti" and "新界原居民" are equivalent. If zh:廣府民系 is not acceptable either, that means there's no real Chinese equivalent page for this topic yet (which to be honest, isn't too surprising, since it's a concept mainly from English law and scholarship), then I'll remove the link entirely unless someone has a better suggestion. cab 00:40, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removing merge tag

There's no new discussion on a possible merge for this article. I'm removing the tag. Hong Qi Gong 16:59, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Given that arguments offered against the merge with Indigenous inhabitant, the fact that no one argued in favour of the marge, and also the above discussion about the distinction between Punti and the legal concept of indigenous inhabitant, I'm again removing the link to zh:新界原居民 (which is the appropriate Chinese equivalent to Indigenous inhabitant). Anyone have a good idea on what is a good replacement instead for that link? cab 04:49, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Quick search on both the zh and zh-yue versions of Wikipedia do not yield any articles called "本地人" or "香港本地人". There are articles that make reference to "本地人", but there doesn't seem to be specifically articles on the term. I think we'll have to create it first. Hong Qi Gong 05:14, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
