The punto is a musical genre characteristic from the east of Venezuela, that is interpretated along with the galerón and Fulía at the celebration of the velorios de cruz.
In Venezuela and the Caribbean, the punto has received diverse names, depending on its interpretation. In Venezuela has been known as punto, punto y llanto, punto cruzado, punto fuerte and punto mampó. These latter terms, according to Luis Felipe Ramón y Rivera, are practically forgotten in the Venezuelan cultural memory, while punto cruzado and punto y llanto are easier to find. For its interpretation the mandolin is accompanied with the cuatro and the guitar.
