Puntagorda (first part, Spanish for point, second part Spanish for fat/plump/large) is a municipality in the Canary Islands in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is situated on the northwestern coast of the island of La Palma. Puntagorda is linked with the highway that encircles the whole island and is located northwest of Santa Cruz de la Palma and NW of the La Palma Airport.
The population is 1,962 (ISTAC, 2006), its density is 63.09/km² and the area is 31.1 km²/3,110 ha. The elevation of the village is around 600 m. The elevation of the municipality varies from sea level to over 1000 m.
Farmlands dominate the middle altitudes around the village, mainly smallholdings and orange and avocado orchards. Above the village are the vineyards producing the local Traviesa wine which won a Spanish national gold medal in 2004. Further up the slopes of the Caldera de Taburiente are forests of Canary Island pine. The steep cliffs of the coastline are a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. There is access to a small sea-water pool via 400 steps. Puntagorda is well known for its almond trees which blossom in January and February. The festival of the flowering almonds is held every year at the end of January or beginning of February. There is a farmers market every weekend with fresh local produce in the Mercadillo.

The population between 1991 and 2001 fell but it recovered in 2002 reached above the 1991 level, fell after the 2002 census and is steadily increasing (2006/2007). Over 25% of the registered residents in Puntagorda are German nationals.

Puntagorda has a few schools, a lyceum, a gymnasium, a creche, medical center, dentist, a church and an old church(templo), a tiny beach, a small port, a post office, library, 2 internet cafes, shops, 3 small supermarkets, bars, 3 restaurants and a few squares plazas. There is also a popular swimming pool which was built by some of the local expert craftsmen.
