[edit] search broken

How come when I search for "pumello" this page does not come up? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.138.218 (talk) 02:38, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] pummelo and pomelo

I've done an exhaustive search on the web regarding "pummelo" and "pomelo." It seems to me that all the web sites regard pummelo and pomelo to be the same thing. There was one website that said that at one point people tried to name the grapefruit as the pomelo, but grapefruit became a more popular name. Allentchang 19:59, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Indeed, this distinction seems very suspect, and I could find no support for it anywhere outside of Wikipedia. — Pekinensis 23:22, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
The OED2 entry for "Pomelo" mentions that American markets call the grapefruit either "pomelo" or "forbidden fruit". I'm inclined to think that entry is a bit dated though. That said... — mendel 00:46, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Merge into pomelo

There doesn't seem to be any reason to have separate articles for pummelo and pomelo; C. maxima and C. grandis are the same species (and C. maxima the current proper name, from what I can tell). It was a tough call as to which name to make primary; Google returned 57,600 English hits for "pomelo -wikipedia -encyclopedia" and 16,500 for "pummelo -wikipedia -encyclopedia", so I mostly arbitrarily decided to place it in "pomelo". (Also: "citrus maxima pomelo" 976, "citrus maxima pummelo" 546; but "citrus grandis pomelo" 638, "citrus maxima pummelo" 745. Can't win 'em all.) — mendel 01:27, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

I am quite confused with this phrase :

Pummelo must not be confused with Pomelo. See [1].

Indeed, the given reference does mention pomelo as one of the numerous synonyms of pummelo. C.P. 08:32, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

The page was unilaterally moved to "pummelo" on 13 Sep by an anonymous user. I've requested a move back, as according previous discussion on this issue "pomelo" is not only synonymous, but the more common name. Jpatokal 04:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
