[edit] "Pull my Pudwhacker"

"* Thought to have originated as "pull my pudwhacker," a common sexual prank often played by uncles on their nephews during the Victorian era. For example, see Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens and the humorous reversal in Adam Bede by George Eliot."

This sounded like a joke to me, so I looked for any other mention of this phrase online, and all I could find was this exact phrase being quoted verbatim from this page. If it's true then someone should find a source, and an explanation of what specifically is involved would be... interesting. I'm glad they opted for "keep." I added a line to the article referencing the phrase's use as a "meme," because I've heard references to "pull my finger" for years and no one ever has actually followed through with the joke. I came to Wikipedia today specifically to look this up in confidence it would be here. That's one of the many functions of WP -- to pull together in one place references and explanations of a variety of people, places, phenomena, and tie things together and expand on them in a way that's hard to find in any other single resource. Clearly, WP has "bigger fish to fry" -- I've worked on a number of articles related to figures in Holocaust-era rescues and Central American politics -- but this kind of article is part of WP's mission, too. I am removing the memetics category from this article since you learn no more about the article's contents from the category and v.v. Since so many things may be memes we should try to keep the category closely defined in order to remain useful. Hope you're okay with that. The link to meme would be enough I suggest. [edit] Pull my finger doesn't really work?

PROUT

I've always been under the impression that pulling ones finger will actually induce flatulance. Do you mean to tell me that that is not true?

Yes. (Also, sign your comments!) Stylish Alastor the Stylish 20:12, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History?

At what point did this joke enter the American conscience? For some reason I am inclined to think it had a WWII era origin. bd2412 T 03:32, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
