Pulpit (foaled in 1994 at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky), is an American Thoroughbred Stallion Racehorse who now performs stud duties at Claiborne Farm for a fee of $80,000 per live foal. His sire is the 1992 Eclipse Award winner for American Horse of the Year and American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse, A.P. Indy. His dam is the Grade 1 winning race mare, Preach.

[edit] Racing Career

Pulpit was unraced as a two-year-old and did not make his first start until January of his three-year-old year in 1997. He immediately made an impact by winning his first three starts, including the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park in Florida. After finishing second in the Grade 1 Florida Derby, Pulpit solidified his status as a legitimate Kentucky Derby contender by dominating his next start, the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland Racecourse in Kentucky.

[edit] Retirement

Pulpit suffered an injury to his left hind leg during the running of the 1997 Kentucky Derby, and despite this, still managed to finish fourth behind Silver Charm, Captain Bodgit, and Free House. He was retired to stud duty shortly thereafter.

[edit] Stud Career

Much like his sire, A.P. Indy, Pulpit has proven to be a very successful stallion. His progeny includes several graded stakes winners including:

  • Laity
