"Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" was the second UK single released from Squeeze's third album, Argybargy. Even though it never made Billboard's Top 100 Chart, "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" is one of the band's more popular songs in the US and it continues to get frequent radio play there.

In 2007, Scottish group Travis covered "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" on their single "Selfish Jean." The American rock band Head Automatica covered "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" and released the track as a digital-only download.
