Pulaski County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 7,348. Its county seat is Mound City, Illinois[1].

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 203 square miles (527 km²), of which, 201 square miles (520 km²) of it is land and 3 square miles (7 km²) of it (1.25%) is water.

Pulaski County was formed in 1843 out of Alexander and Johnson Counties. It was named in honor of Kazimierz Pułaski who was killed at the Siege of Savannah in the Revolutionary War.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 7,348 people, 2,893 households, and 1,941 families residing in the county. The population density was 37 people per square mile (14/km²). There were 3,353 housing units at an average density of 17 per square mile (6/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 66.52% White, 31.00% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.93% Asian, 0.27% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 1.46% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 27.1% were of American, 13.6% German, 8.2% English and 6.2% Irish ancestry according to Census 2000.

There were 2,893 households out of which 31.20% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.40% were married couples living together, 15.80% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.90% were non-families. 30.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the county the population was spread out with 27.20% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 25.30% from 25 to 44, 21.70% from 45 to 64, and 17.40% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.30 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $25,361, and the median income for a family was $33,193. Males had a median income of $29,198 versus $19,656 for females. The per capita income for the county was $13,325. About 20.50% of families and 24.70% of the population were below the poverty line, including 34.70% of those under age 18 and 21.30% of those age 65 or over.
