[edit] Information on Southerland

I emailed a few of Southerland's classmates at Annapolis and got the following information in response:

Southerland, CAPT James(Jim) Julien 111. USNR; BS; Virginia; 365430 ; 758; MA COMM Regent Univ; CAPT; Ret.; 111; DSM, JCSM, LOM, JSAM; EGE ; Tech Arch, Homeland Security Cmd; Control Adv Concept Tech, 757 617-508; r. 1341 Meadow Lane Rd., Virginia Bch., VA 23454, 757 481-1714; Linda; Timothy, Kristen, Abigail; jsouth@stswar.navy.mil

I'm afraid I haven't been able to decipher all of it and some data appears to contradict, or at least not corroborate, other sources. For instance, the fact that he received the Distinquished Flying Cross in mentioned in the Secrets of the Dead episode, but it is not amongst the awards listed above. The Purple Heart is also not listed amongst his awards, though the number of injuries he sustained in combat with Saburo Sakai alone would merit such an award. I also have no idea what "Tech Arch" and "Control Adv Concept Tech" mean, though I suspect they are post-WW2 USNR assignments/commands. If anyone can tell me what EGE stands for, I'd also be very interested. Geeman 15:57, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
