[edit] Overview

Puerto del Sol is an internationally recognized American literary journal dedicated to publishing "the works of today's freshest, most exciting talents." The journal publishes poetry, short stories, novel excerpts, book reviews, photo essays, translations, and other artwork. Founded in the mid-1960s, Puerto del Sol is published by New Mexico State University's English Department.

The journal participates in the annual Intro Journals Project, a writing contest for undergraduate and graduate student writers sponsored by the AWP.

[edit] Submission Guidelines

Puerto del Sol's editors read poetry submissions from September 1 to November 1 and fiction submissions from November 1 through March 1 each year. The editors generally respond to submissions in three to five months. They ask that writers clearly identify their work as fiction, poetry, or essays and include a SASE.

Puerto del Sol accepts simultaneous submissions but asks that writers writers notify the journal as soon as possible if their work is accepted elsewhere.
