[edit] Summary

Opened in 2003, the Puente Atirantado (officially named Puente de la Unidad) is a suspension bridge that crosses the Río Santa Catarina and joins San Pedro Garza García with Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo León, in México. Although impressive and elegant, its construction was highly controversial due to its cost, its design (which appears to have been cribbed from Santiago Calatrava), and the fact that the river it crosses is dry.
