WikiProject AFL Hi mate, if you're a fan of Aussie rules, I suggest you take a look at WikiProject AFL (join by adding your name to the list of participants) and the Australian rules football portal. Also take a look at Category:VFL/AFL players and feel free to drop me a line with any questions, or on the WP:AFL discussion page. Cheers!

Rogerthat Talk 06:53, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Aussie rules yes; AFL - not particularly. I am really more interested in SANFL and only interested in AFL in so much as it overlaps on SANFL related matters. As a newbie I am trying not to weigh in with size 9's but there seems an awful lot of POV stuff already in the V/AFL material on here. (eg Teddy Whitten's farewell motorcade at the MCG described as the "greatest moment in AFL history" on Mascot Manor).
Anyway, I'll keep looking around for a while and hopefully get the hang of things. Where WP:AFL already have an AFL reference to a person of some SANFL significance I am intending to add the SANFL material to the existing templated material. Hope that's OK. Tell me if not.
Pudgey 22:33, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Cheers for the feedback. Would be good to have some more coverage of the SANFL on here, perhaps you'd be interested in setting up a SANFL Project? Being a Vic I don't follow the league myself but if you can bring a few South Aussies together on this site maybe something worthwhile could be set up. Cheers, Rogerthat Talk 02:49, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bryce Gibbs Cup

I disagree on the basis that the Bryce Gibbs Cup was not actually a part of Gibbs' pre-AFL playing career. The Bryce Gibbs Cup related specifically to the process of drafting him to the AFL, which makes it a part of the first step in his AFL career, despite the fact that it chronologically lay within his pre-AFL career. That's my thoughts, anyway.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aspirex (talkcontribs) .

I think you miss my point, but he no longer plays for Glenelg so feel free to edit as you see fit. Pudgey 11:34, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: South Australian Team of the Century

At the time I was researching for other articles such as the Indigenous Team of the Century and assumed that the FPP article was an official team sanctioned by the SANFL. So you have a good point - perhaps the article should be put up for deletion as it is more an 'opinionated' team than an official one. Then again, Richie Benaud's Greatest XI has an article. Rogerthat Talk 04:39, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prospect CC

Hi, thanks for writing. I'm moving all team stubs out of the main cricket stub category and I was curious about this one. When I read it I decided it's no longer a stub although you have said it still needs a bit more work, but it is already a very good article. All the best. --BlackJack | talk page 08:57, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bob Quinn

Hey there. I finally got around to writing an article on Bob Quinn (Australian footballer) and noticed that you had intentions on doing the same. I unfortunately haven't had access to John Wood's Bound For Glory which would give more insight into Quinn, so my article is not currently the quality I would like. --Roisterer 08:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My accidental space edits

Hello Pudgey.

Thanks for pointing out the "space" problem. I don't understand why they occurred, but will use the Show Preview button in future.

I live in Launceston and have a great interest in sport history, especially cricket and Australian Football.

If I can help with advice about SA players/teams in Tassie then please be in touch.

Cheers

Jessopus

[edit] Jack Juniper

I had edited Jack Juniper under the impression he was going to be playing SANFL this year. If you have information otherwise feel free to revert my edit.--Hack 11:48, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] West Torrens Cricket Club

When I first went to the page I was going to prod it... edits like this have me thinking I should have! Garrie 04:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I was suggesting that if the most notable event for the club occurs in the under-14's (graded or otherwise!) comp then the team/club probably doesn't really warrant an article. Good work in removing under-14's results... South Australian Grade Cricket exists and gives justification to keeping WTCC I guess. I prodded a fair few articles the other day (including this one) because they seemed non-notable, this was one of the few (the other was a baseball team article where there is no article for the affiliated league) where the prod tag has been removed.Garrie 04:43, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:SAPanthersLogo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SAPanthersLogo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:10, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Buffalos.jpg

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Buffalos.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:44, 15 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. REgarding your comment here

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_VFL/AFL_presidents&action=history

in relation to Bruce Weber.

True, he may not have been a President of an AFL Club - but he was most definitely President of Port Adelaide between 1986-1993, as indicated here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Weber_(administrator)

If you look at the other clubs on the page, you can see for the Kangaroos for instance - the list of Presidents goes back to before they joined the VFL - back in fact to when the club was formed!

The cut-off for this list is not when the club entered the VFL/AFL - it is when it was formed. Port Adelaide in the AFL is not an entity thought up in the minds of a group of administrators - it is a direct extension of the original Port Adelaide in the SANFL. It is true that the Port Adelaide in the SANFL is a also a direct extension of the original Port Adelaide, no doubt - but it does not preclude their being another branch on this tree - they are both direct extensions and descendents of when Port Adelaide was only the SANFL. They have equal claim over the history of Port Adelaide prior to 1997. As indicated in the VFL/AFL List, Greg Boulton has been the President of Port Adelaide since 1993 - when it was obviously just a SANFL club.

A useful addition to that page would be to flesh out the Port Adelaide Presidents all the way back to their founding, as has been done for the Kangaroos. Eventually one would hope all such clubs are thus fleshed out - but it is quite a task.

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:RWE Wilmot bookcover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:RWE Wilmot bookcover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:08, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
