[edit] Introduction
The late Puchalapalli Sundaraiah[1] was a selfless member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was a model Communist leader who had come under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi during his Intermediate education days. As a result, he gave up studies and took part in the Indian freedom struggle.[2]
He hailed from Nellore District in Andhra Pradesh in India. Fired by Communist ideals and egalitarian values he changed his name from Sundararami Reddy, to drop his caste suffix. He was so dedicated to the upliftment of the poor that he and his spouse chose not to have children, for the purpose of social service. He directly participated in Telangana armed struggle against the imperialism of the Nizam of Hyderabad.
He died on the 19th of May, 1985.[3][4]
