Talk:Public cardroom rules (poker)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is Public cardroom etiquette (poker) and Public cardroom rules (poker) but no Public cardroom. I think the two existant articles should be merged into Public cardroom. I would like to hear what other people think about this. S Sepp 00:06, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
- It appears that Public cardroom etiquette (poker) has been merged into this article.--Toms2866 00:01, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article rewrite
I rewrote this article. [Original version]. The article was tagged with for problems with references and use of second person - I removed those tags, but I don't know the wikiquette for removing such tags. imho, the rewrite fixed the problems, but I'd still like to know whether it's OK for an editor to remove such tags without discussion. I made some bold decisions to eliminate some content, particularly the discussion of casino profitability (this is an article on rules), discussion of betting (changed to reference to article on betting to avoid redundancy) and in the former Etiquette section. Feedback welcome.--Toms2866 03:33, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- You can remove tone tags if you address the point of the tag. 2005 06:49, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Question about etiquette
I read this article after reading the Steve Billirakis article and coming across:
During the final table, Mueller teased Billirakis about his youth, and made a feint of putting chips into the pot to attempt to get a read on whether Billirakis wanted him to call. (This is considered a breach of etiquette but not a violation of the rules.)
Can anybody explain to me what exactly he did here? And perhaps place it into this article. --Mark PEA 21:10, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Etiquette is a slippery slope, and not really within the scope of these rules. For example, teasing and needling is acceptable etiquette in the US, but inappropriate in the UK. But even in that, some forms of verbal abuse becaome rule violations in the US, while some talk is okay in the UK.That comment in the Billirakis article is inappropriate editorialization so it needs to go. 2005 22:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, but the article doesn't explain exactly what Mueller did... I'm assuming Billirakis made a bet (pre-flop) and Mueller was raising just for the sake of getting "a read on whether Billirakis wanted him to call", not because of the cards he was holding. I assume this is bad etiquette because the 'experienced' player is discriminating against the young player because of his age (prejudice), although as you said, etiquette rules will vary depending on where one plays poker.
- Thanks for the reply anyway, I guess it would just be best to remove the statement from the Billirakis article altogether. --Mark PEA 23:44, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. 2005 02:26, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Probably not important now, but the breach of etiquette wasn't Mueller raising, it was he tried to "fake" raising by making forward motions with his chips with no intention of raising 70.179.167.44 (talk) 03:35, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
