August 15 Liberation Day Gwangbokjeol 광복절 光復節 Since 1949. Commemorates liberation from Japanese imperial rule in 1945 (see Victory over Japan Day)
8th month, 15th day of the lunar calendar Harvest Festival Chuseok 추석 秋夕 Three-day holiday since 1989. Two-day holiday 1986 - 1988. Usually in late September.
