Public email addresses are email addresses which are shared by a group such as a neighborhood, a school, or some people with a shared interest. They can be implemented using any email system such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or an ISP email service.

  1. Make a new email account with any email system
  2. Add the email account's password to the "signature" of the email account.
  3. Add the URL of this Wikipedia article to the signature. The URL is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_email_address

[edit] Advantages of public email addresses:

  • Gives a persona and an inbox to any concept or group
  • Allows for pseudoanonymous communication
  • Encourages participation within a shared environment

  • Susceptible to vandalism
  • May violate the Terms of Use of some email systems
