PT-109 (model)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The popularity of the story of John F. Kennedy's PT-109 made it a very popular subject for ship model companies in the 1960s, and it is still popular even as newly manufactured kits in the 2000s. Though less famous than the USS Constitution, it is a much less complex boat to model than a sailing ship, or even compared to destroyers or battleships.

[edit] Revell

Revell released a 1/72 scale kit in the early 1960s, it is still widely available in the 2000s, and reissued a few different boxes.

[edit] Lindberg

Lindberg has made a 1/32 scale model since the 1960s, one of the least expensive motorized ship model kits. 1/32 is normally a scale used for fairly large single seat aircraft.

[edit] Dumas

Dumas makes fairly expensive wooden and fiberglass models aimed at serious adult hobbyists for R/C conversion.

[edit] MicroMachines

A small ship in a bottle of the PT-109 was produced, as well as an identical model with a different PT number.
