[edit] Who am I?
My name is Paul Strait. I am a doctoral student at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California, where I am an assistant coach of the policy debate team. My dissertation adviser is Tom Goodnight. My primary area of interest is argumentation theory -- in particular, what role does argumentation play in the overall Enlightenment project of achieving progress through the sovereignty of practical rationality (i.e., delinking system from Lifeworld). I am also interested in scientific controversies in the public sphere, especially over biotechnology.
I am a member of Mensa, a convert to Roman Catholicism, a libertarian, a fan of Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, and a former Boy Scout (and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow) who enjoys camping, backpacking, and climbing.
