Prudence Murphy

Prudence Murphy is an Australian artist born in 1970 in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, Australia.

She studied Visual Communications at the University of Technology and is a graduate of the [College of Fine Arts], University of New South Wales (Bachelor of Fine Arts with First Class Honours & Master of Fine Arts). In 2007 she was short listed for RIPE: Art and Australia Contemporary Art Award. Murphy generally works in photographic media but has also worked with various mediums including works on paper, printed media, sound installation, performance, multiples, artist books and animation.

'Simply draw it out & start again' exhibited at Room 35, [Gitte Weise Gallery] in 2001.

Murphy's recent work The Male Grooming Series takes the groomed (older) male body as its subject matter, detailing specific rituals of grooming and hygiene. Murphy depicts each grooming process as a series of photographs, much as Muybridge documented individual body movements in his celebrated 'Laterals'. Murphy will exhibit this work at James Dorahy Project Space 6 November - 18 November 2007.
