[edit] More tips...

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

The above is a "template", but I used it 'cause it showed the edit summary box. Your edits on Wahalak are great! You might also want to remember to sign your comments on talk pages by entering --~~~~. Let me know if I can answer any questions or help you in any way! --Chiacomo (talk) 01:37, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Amazing

Well done on trustee! I'd meant to change that but I'm a lazy editor. Where have you been? You belong here! Again, glad to have you... --Chiacomo (talk) 21:46, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hope this comment is in the right place

Thanks for all the help. This has turned out to be pretty fun, and a constructive outlet.

It is a little addictive though. Early this morning I was working on a technical paper having to do with a compound called DMSP. Of course, I had to set my work aside for a little while when I realized there was no Wikipedia entry for DMSP. But it didn't take very long, and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

By the way, is there a 12-Step Program for Wikipedia?

Darn it, there's another link some other OCD case besides me is going to have to work on.

(Note I changed my screen name since my original Wahalak entry; it's the same person, but with a little less obvious handle).

Yep, you answered in the right place... Some users reply to messages on their own talk pages (I'm going to copy this response to mine), while others reply as you have done on the page of the user who left the message. It's a matter of personal preference, really. Concerning your handle: if you want to change your actual username (rather than just masking it as it appears you have done), you contact an administrator and they'll migrate your edits, discussion, etc to the new username. See Wikipedia:List of administrators to find an admin -- User:Mel Etitis is a nice guy and could probably advise you. Need help with your new addiction? No twelve steps that I know of, but see Wikipediholic. --Chiacomo (talk) 23:54, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your user name

Thanks for your message. I have good news and bad news. The bad news is, I'm afraid, that migrating edits from your old to your new account has been suspended (see Wikipedia:Changing attribution for an edit); the best that you can do, for now at least, is explain on your User page that you used to be Jodybruton. The good news is that your User page and Talk page can be migrated. if you open an account under the new name, you can just Move the two pages to their new names (make sure that, after you open the new account, you don't add anything to the new User and Talk pages until after the move). Can you Move pages yet? If not, let me know, and I can do it for you. There's no need for any sort of formal notice, though. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:48, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oops, sorry. I thought Jody could request a "name change"... --Chiacomo (talk) 21:31, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

When this page and your present User page are moved, they'll leave behind automatic redirects; you could have those deleted, though it would mean that anyone following up the edits or comments made in your old name would be unable to find you. Let me know which you want to do when you're ready. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:21, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
