[edit] Welcome to the Wikipedia!
Welcome to the Wikipedia, Proficient! And thanks for the help on the 9/11 conspiracy theories article. Hope you enjoy editing here and becoming a Wikipedian! Here are some perfunctory tips to hasten your acculturation into the Wikipedia experience:
- Take a look at the Wikipedia Tutorial and Manual of Style.
- When you have time, take a look at The five pillars of Wikipedia, and assume good faith, but keep in mind the unique style you brought to the Wiki!
- Always keep the notion of NPOV in mind, be respectful of others' POV, and remember your unique perspective on the meaning of neutrality is invaluable!
- If you need any help, post your question at the Help Desk.
- Explore, be bold in editing, and, above all else, have fun!
Some odds and ends: Boilerplate text, Brilliant prose, Cite your sources, Civility, Conflict resolution, How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Pages needing attention, Peer review, Policy Library, Utilities, Verifiability, Village pump, Wikiquette, and you can sign your name on any page by typing 4 tildes: ~~~~.
Best of luck, Proficient, and have fun! Ombudsman 11:16, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thank you for the reply. Made a big message but found out what it really was, so I edited *blush*. So how do processes make themselves hidden? Man... I really wish there were easier ways to remove viruses manually with Windows. Seems like they give you limited tools, and being a novice with PCs, I can only do so much.--Hellogoodsir 02:01, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bot?
My message comes quite late. I just noticed that your edit [1] at Romanian nouns was mistaken, because you "corrected" a Romanian word according to English spelling rules... In the past the same mistake was made (twice!) by a bot; I hope you were not running a bot too, were you? As you might know, unattended spell-checking bots are not allowed on Wikipedia: [2]. Cheers. — AdiJapan ☎ 17:53, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- No. I have not inquired as to how bots are used or where to use them; therefore, I do not run one. That day I was just correcting spelling errors. But thanks for letting me know about the error and I apologize for it. --Proficient 00:55, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Request for edit summary
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 19:49, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hippy chicks
You do know, don't you, that {{nonsense}} and {{db-nonsense}} are actually the same template? The article now has two identical notices on it. Just FYI. Fan-1967 07:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- I apologize. It was a mistake, and I removed it. --Proficient 07:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's not the first time I've seen that. I've also seen people remove a {{nn-bio}} and replace it with {{db-bio}}. Again, kind of pointless, since one redirects to the other. Fan-1967 07:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
