[edit] Mission

With a motto of "Delivering Health and Hope to the World" Project C.U.R.E seeks to identify, solicit, collect, sort and deliver medical supplies and services according to the imperative needs of the world. PROJECT C.U.R.E. is the registered trademark of the Benevolent Healthcare Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, humanitarian relief organization that collects donated medical supplies and equipment and delivers them to developing countries. PROJECT C.U.R.E. is currently the world’s largest distributor of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing nations, working with more than 120 countries worldwide.

PROJECT C.U.R.E.’s focus is on building sustainable healthcare infrastructure in the form of desperately needed medical supplies and equipment. PROJECT C.U.R.E. provides the tools for medical personnel to deliver healthcare.

PROJECT C.U.R.E. makes donations only after assessing the needs of an individual clinic or hospital. A trained PROJECT C.U.R.E. representative conducts an extensive “on-site” appraisal of the capacity of the facility, the character of the recipient and the ability to work through customs. This process ensures that the medical personnel receive the supplies appropriate to the need.

[edit] Origin/History

PROJECT C.U.R.E.’s founder, James Jackson, was working as an international economic consultant with heads of governments in developing nations around the globe when his work led him face to face with the needs of the sick and dying. During a trip to Brazil in 1987, he learned that patients of all types were often turned away for lack of basic medical supplies and equipment. A promise was made to the clinic that the use of surplus wealth and tools of commerce would provide relief to those people.

At his home in Evergreen, Colorado, Jackson collected roughly $250,000 worth of donated surplus medical supplies in one month’s time. Out of his own pocket, he paid the shipping costs and the first container was sent to the clinic in Brazil.

Today, PROJECT C.U.R.E. is run by Founder James Jackson’s son, Dr. Douglas Jackson. In the past ten years, the Jackson family, along with a small staff and an army of volunteers has expanded their reach to every corner of the globe. PROJECT C.U.R.E. has worked in over 120 countries and has touched the lives of thousands.

[edit] Structure

The international headquarters for PROJECT C.U.R.E. are located near the Denver Tech Center in Centennial, Colorado. The headquarters building also serves as the area’s distribution center where volunteers collect and sort the donated materials before loading the cargo containers to be delivered around the globe. There are four distribution sites including Centennial, CO; Nashville, TN; Houston, TX; and Phoenix, AZ. PROJECT C.U.R.E. also has collection centers across the United States where small groups of volunteers collect donated medical supplies and equipment and then send to one of the four distribution centers. These collection centers are located in Albuquerque, NM; Austin, TX; Lexington, KY; Harrisburg, PA; and Sarasota, FL.

[edit] Volunteering

PROJECT C.U.R.E. is supported by more than 12,000 volunteer visits a year, across the United States, all members of the C.U.R.E. CORPS. Volunteers contribute more than 35,000 hours annually to assist PROJECT C.U.R.E. in its operations.

Volunteers that come to PROJECT C.U.R.E. serve individually or as part of a school, corporate or church group. Medical professionals direct the identification and inventory of the supplies, and technicians test and repair the equipment before it is packed for delivery. Medical professionals also volunteer “in-country” on short-term C.U.R.E. CLINIC missions for medical relief in targeted countries.

[edit] Programs

PROJECT C.U.R.E. has four unique programs that are aimed at helping provide individuals in developing countries with medical relief – PROCURE, CARGO, CLINICS and KITS.

PROJECT C.U.R.E. PROCURE gathers new and overstock medical supplies and working equipment from manufacturers, wholesale suppliers, hospitals, clinics and individuals and delivers that material to clinics and hospitals in developing countries.

PROJECT C.U.R.E.’s CARGO containers are the size of a semi-truck trailer. CARGO provides an average of $400,000 in medical equipment and supplies. Each week PROJECT C.U.R.E. delivers an average of two to three CARGO containers of medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics in developing countries.

C.U.R.E. CLINICS provides an avenue for volunteer medical professionals to travel to developing countries where they offer medical services to people in need. Locations where PROJECT C.U.R.E. has operated CLINICS include: Guatemala, Kenya, Rwanda, Ghana, Bolivia, China, Togo and more.

C.U.R.E. KITS are specially prepared boxes containing essential medical supplies and instruments. C.U.R.E. KITS are designed to meet the needs for short-term medical missions abroad. C.U.R.E. KITS can be hand-carried by an individual or group to hospitals or clinics in developing countries.
