[edit] Premise of this template
I've removed this template from the CPU article a couple of times now because I don't agree with the premise behind the grouping. The items listed have functionally little to do with one another; their most common thread being similar names. Grouping a DSP (the sound processing unit) and a specialized type of embedded system (the network processing unit) with the CPU isn't really appropriate, IMO. Modern GPU architecture is becoming progressively more programmable and less like a DSP, so the association with the CPU is arguably stronger, but I don't think that is sufficient to merit the assocation with other similarly named devices. -- mattb 02:41, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- I also think use of this template on the referenced articles is inappropriate. Availability of this particular set of navigation links does not warrant the burden of the nav box presence in the articles. -R. S. Shaw 02:29, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
How about specialized processors to be plugged into a slot (PCI/PCI-e/HTX), such as Math, FP etc.? Are they a kind of computer processing units? If yes, then why not put them into the template? Somehow, I think this box should contain a lot more than these "contents". -202.40.157.165
