Talk:Proto-Ukrainians

Neutral POV
I have nominated this page for a neutral POV check, as it basically consists of a series of very loaded words ("pseudohistory") but not a lot in terms of good proof. The main source used here is a Soviet-era article in Russian whose title ("The rise of Ukrainian Separatism") (note the use of the politically-loaded term "separatism" rathern than something neutral like "nationalism") says much about its aims. Lest we forget that what this article alleges as "pseudohistory" are equally verifiable and footnotable sources.
Furthermore, the article makes the statement "The name of Ukraine is in reality derived from a Proto-Slavic *kraj- "region" or "borderland" and not from an ethnonym." This is too conclusive and simplistic. While this is one theory that may ultimately be correct, this has not been shown with any sort of definitiveness nor have the competing claims presented on this 'proto ukrainain' page been disproven. Another wikipedia page, "Name of Ukraine" discusses this in far more depth.
Looking at the list presented in "proto ukrainian theories", we see that the baby may have been thrown with the bathwater. While it seems likely that some (if not potentially all) of these theories will ultimately prove themselves to be wrong (err, not accepted), unless a convincing argument has been made otherwise (it hasn't), simply listing them, without refutation, under a 'pseudohistory' page is completely inappropriate, as while one or two of the theories may be a bit far-fetched (atilla the hun, or example), none of them are outside the realm of possibility, at least given the evidence provided. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.6.11.56 (talk) 08:36, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
