Laos is divided into 16 provinces (Lao ແຂວງ, khoueng), 1 municipality (ນະຄອນຫລວງ, kampheng nakhon), and formerly 1 special zone (ເຂດພິເສດ, khetphiset).

The provinces are subdivided into districts (muang) and villages (baan).
