[edit] History

Jose De Lara (vocals/guitar), Ben Greenspan (guitar/synth), Daniel O'Neill (bass), and Reid Calkin (drums) create the stylish post-punk leanings of Protokoll. Formed out of the ashes of various punk ensembles in their native Boston in 2004, Protokoll initially started out as a laptop synth dance project between Greenspan, De Lara, and O'Neill. With the addition of Calkin in 2005, and a vast array of influences like Bauhaus, Daft Punk, Black Flag, and Mission of Burma, Protokoll began recording their debut EP that spring. The U.K. imprint Illicit Records was so impressed that they issued "Moving Forward" and "Holy Divine" as a double A-sided single. A second single, the brooding dance number "DNR," followed that summer, while Protokoll played North American shows with the Rakes. iHEARTCOMIX issued the Protokoll EP in the States in fall 2006. Ben Greenspan left Protokoll in late 2006 to join the band MMOSS. Ryanz replaced Ben and is now working with Jose De Lara on their interstellar post-technotronic muppet baby tribute band, Nomen. -MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
