Proto Spirra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Spirra is Proto Motors' latest attempt at creating a supercar capable of competing with the best European and American manufacturers.[citation needed]

Although the Spirra's price tag is much lower than most supercars, costing approximately $90,000, it does display fairly impressive figures. Behind the driver is a 4.6 DOHC V8 32V engine with a power output of 320 hp (239 kW).[citation needed] This engine is borrowed from the older Ford Mustang Cobra models. The engine delivers over 312 lb·ft (423 N·m) of torque to the ground. The Spirra has a claimed 0-60 time under 4.3 seconds with an expected top speed of 190mph (305km/h).

The Spirra is rear wheel drive and although it contains design cues from most supercars, such as having low center of gravity and a mid-placement engine, it is also much smaller, approximately the size of a Lotus Exige.

In May 2007, Protomotors was taken over by Oullim Motors of the Oullim Group. In December 2007, Oullim Motors introduced the Spirra GT270, its flagship race car. The engine equiped is a V6 2.7 24V Twin Turbo Engine with maximum horsepower set at 600hp. It was rather successful, winning its debut race at Yongin Speedway in the 2008 Extra Time Trial and GTM race series. (엑스타타임트라이얼 & GTM) A representative of Oullim Motors, Park Tong Hyuk, states that this car will be competing with Porsche 911 GT3s, Nissan 350Zs, and BMW M3s. Another variant, the Spirra S, was unveiled at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show; it is estimated to sell at 109,000,000 Won as of April 2008. It boasts 400bhp from a twin-turbo charged 2.7L V6, lifted most probably from the cheaper, slower Hyundai Coupe. Performance stats are: 0-60(mph) in 4.8 seconds, and it reaches 305km/h, or 350km/h if the "Mission Tuning Offset" is installed. With a weight figure of around 1000kg these numbers are no surprise. Its dimensions are certainly supercar-like: with a height of 1,216mm it is lower than a Mercedes SLR and with girth at 1,924mm it is only marginally narrower. Its length is 4,357mm, around that of a normal hatchback car.

The Spirra should sell in May 2008, in Korea.
