Protium is a genus of more than 120 species of flowering plants in the family Burseraceae, native to the Neotropics (where more than 100 species occur), and to Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, southern Asia from Pakistan east to Vietnam. The genus is most closely related to the genera Tetragastris and Crepidospermum.
The species are usually small or medium sized[tree]]s but some can be large, up to 35 m tall.
