Prostitution in Syria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prostitution in Syria refers to prostitution in Syria. Beyond the practice of prostitution by an undisclosed number of Syrian women, there are also many Iraqi women fleeing the Iraq War, involved in this activity.[1] In Syria alone, an estimated 50,000 Iraqi refugee girls and women, with ages comprised between 15 and 40 years old, many of them widows or orphans, are forced into prostitution.[2] Cheap Iraqi prostitutes have helped to make Syria a popular destination for sex tourists. Many clients come from wealthier countries in the Middle East - including Saudi Arabia and Turkey.[3] High prices are offered for virgins.[4]
