Prostitution in Iraq

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prostitution in Iraq is illegal but pleasure marriages are legal. Pleasure marriages are when a man hires a woman to be his wife in exchange for cash. Such an arrangement can last as long as several years or a couple of hours. The Arabic word for pleasure marriage is muta'a. Women are not allowed to enter muta'a; they were illegal under the rule of Saddam Hussein but have flourished since he stopped ruling the country. It is practiced in the Shi'ite sector.[1][2]
