Prorogation Act 1867
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prorogation Act 1867 is an Act of Parliament of the Parliament of the United Kingdom which is still in force in the United Kingdom with amendments.[1] The long title is "An Act to simplify the Forms of Prorogation during the Recess of Parliament." The Act received Royal Assent on 12 August 1867.
The Act allows for an extension of time of up to 14 days for the prorogation, i.e. the time between which Parliament is summoned and the time which Parliament sits. However, the Representation of the People Act 1918 enacted that such a period must be at least twenty days.[2]
