Propaganda Records is a Helsinki, Finland based record label focusing mainly on punk rock. It was started in 1981 by Heikki Vilenius.[1]

The compilations Propaganda I – Russia Bombs Finland and Propaganda – Hardcore´83 made Propaganda as a quite well known worldwide within hardcore scenes. Soon the hardcore (punk) had an influence that spread to all kind of music and beyond music.

Herbert Egoldt from the German Rock-O-Rama began to publish Finnish licence-recordings from Propaganda Records in the beginning of 1983.[2] Still almost all the bands sung in Finnish. It became understood as a manner among all the hardcore-groups soon worldwide.[3]

Later Propaganda withdrew their contracts, because Egoldt had developed a reputation for questionable business practices[4] before he began to release records by right wing bands. The label has been accused of defrauding label and bands of royalties, and of issuing or reissuing records without the consent of the labels and the bands. They signed away their rights. Propaganda tried to get knowledge through the Scandinavian copyright office without any results. Rock-O-Rama folded in 1994 after a police raid. The name Rock-o-rama was sold soon after Egoldts death in 2005.[5]

Some of the Propaganda works are issued also on labels Megamania, Megafon records, WEA/Warner, Lighthouse, Flamingo, Höhnie Records, Havoc Records, Assel Records, Lost and Found, Usina de Sangue, Punk Rock Discos and Kråklund Records.
