ProjectScotland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ProjectScotland is a revolutionary voluneering organisation allowing 16–25 year olds to volunteer on a formal basis with a variety of non-profit organisations. All placements are at least 30 hours per week and last for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of one year.
Volunteers can choose to claim a £55 subsistence allowance from ProjectScotland or claim Jobseeker's Allowance, and travel expenses are refunded. After six months, volunteers become eligible for a Personal Development Fund of up to £1,500. This Personal Development Fund can be put towards further training, driving lessons, starting up a business or a range of other areas that would make the volunteer more employable at the end of their placement. To date ProjectScotland has placed more than 2000 young people, who have in turn completed over 1.3 million hours worth of volunteering through out Scotland.
ProjectScotland is modelled on the AmeriCorps organisation and was set up in May 2005 by Julia Ogilvy.
