Progressive Party (Australia)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Progressive Party was an Australian political party, active in New South Wales state politics. It emerged after federation in 1901, which spurred the development of political parties in states which had previously been non-partisan. With the arrival of the Liberal Reform Party at approximately the same time, it created a two-party system that characterised the first decade of the twentieth century in the state.[1] It died out about 1907.

In 1919, the Farmers' and Settlers' Association and the Graziers' Association founded a new Progressive Party, which won metropolitan and rural seats in the 1920 election.[2]
