[edit] Overview
Ochanomizu is the head of the Ministry of Science in the Astro Boy series. He is best known for having a very large cucumber-shaped nose. In fact, in some panels, he has gotten into nose fights, had his nose fall off and even been threatened to be shot in the nose with a gun. Aside from his nose, his other most notable features are the white fluffy tufts of hair that wrap around his head in a male-pattern baldness style.
After Dr. Tenma disappeared from/burned down the Ministry of Science (it depends on which anime series is being viewed), Ochanomizu was put in charge of finishing Astro Boy's development, and he succeeded. Once awakened, Prof. Ochanomizu told Astro what his beliefs were. Ochanomizu wants both humans and robots to co-exist in peace. Whenever he sees Astro fighting another robot, he wants to stop it, though he has had lapses.
In the Astro Boy manga, Ochanomizu had absolutely no role in the development of Astro; he rescued him from a robot circus after witnessing how cruelly he was being treated by the circus owner.
