Professional Players Tournament 1982

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1982 Professional Players Tournament was a snooker tournament that took place in two venues in the Birmingham area. One was at the La Reserve in Sutton Coldfield and the other was the International Snooker Club in Aston. It was the first ranking snooker tournament outside of the World Championship and it was the first tournament in a series which is now known as the Grand Prix. The event was not televised and the tournament turned out poorly due to poor crowds.

Ray Reardon beat Jimmy White in the final with a 132 clearence to gain his first major tournament win since the 1978 World Championship. The highest break of the tournament (135) was scored by Willie Thorne in his second round defeat by Scotland's Murdo McLeod
