From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Proclamation Island (65°51′S, 53°41′E) is a small rocky island 2.5 nautical miles (4.6 km) west of Cape Batterbee and close east of Aagaard Islands. Discovered by the British Australian New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) under Mawson, 1929-31, and so named, following the reading of a proclamation on its summit on January 13, 1930 claiming the area for the British Crown.
