Pro Gaming League (PGL) was founded in September of 2007 in Regina, Saskatchewan. PGL is a competitive gaming environment for gamers, by gamers. Currently Canada's only "Pro" video game league, PGL is quickly gaining support[1] among the Canadian gaming community.
PLG is similar to the American league Major League Gaming (MLG)[2] however according to its founder Kyle Gronning, PGL is more focused on the players than its southern counterpart. Even though currently the number one concern for the league is finances, every attempt is made to keep the potential winnings for the players as high as possible. While at this time events are primarily financed by entry fees; attempts are being made to negotiate corporate sponsorship in order to increase the prizes available to be won. The chance to someday give Canadian gamers the opportunity to make a living from gaming is the ultimate goal. Gronning has been quoted as saying "Guys make so much money playing poker, why can't they do that with video games?"[1]
PGL is currently partnered with controller accessory designer Tru Gamerz.[3]
