proLoka Pakistan is a non-profit organisation and part of the umbrella organisation proLoka Austria, which is a registered organisation in Austria. The Latin word “pro” means “for” and “loka” from Sanskrit stands for “the world”. proLoka is a project platform and network to exchange knowledge and competences between people, institutions and cultures. This exchange seeks to improve quality of life and personal development of everyone involved in the projects. The current focus is on medicine, information technology, culture and education. Since April 2007 there is cooperation between proLoka Pakistan and the Austrian NGO Austrian Service Abroad. Starting September 2007 proLoka Pakistan can host one volunteer from the Austrian Service Abroad per year to work on projects in Lahore and Kashmir. The activities of proLoka Pakistan include educational and cultural work in Lahore, and educational and relief/rehabilitation projects in Kashmir.
