This should not have been moved. Her father was NOT king, he died when he was the Prince of Wales, so she should be under Princess Augusta Charlotte of Wales. Prsgoddess187 17:59, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

You're quite right. I would just like to hear from Astrotrain as to what his reasoning was, before I move it back. Deb 18:16, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

I've moved it back. It was patiently wrong. A child of the Prince of Wales remains Prince/ess <name> of Wales until their father becomes king. If he dies without becoming king, they remain Prince/ess <name> of Wales until either they are awarded another title or they marry into one. Princeess <name> of Wales remains their maiden title used in biography after their death. Augusta Charlotte would only be Princess Augusta Charlotte of Great Britain if her father had been King of Great Britain or a member of the Royal Family without a title.FearÉIREANN\(caint) 19:23, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

I am a bit confused, but I think this is what happened:
  • Originally the article was at Princess Augusta Charlotte, Duchess of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttell
  • On December 9, I moved it to Princess Augusta Charlotte of Great Britain when I was tidying up the House of Hanover articles (It was not linked from the other articles, and I noticed it at the Line of succession article)
  • On December 10, spotting my mistake, I moved it to Princess Augusta Charlotte of Wales- the current title, and fixed the double redirect on Princess Augusta Charlotte, Duchess of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttell
  • However, User:Dimadick appears to have reverted my move to "of Wales" on January 19.
Hope that makes sense. Astrotrain 20:30, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I see. I thought it wasn't like you. Deb 12:53, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Grandchilden of the sovereign under modern rules are HRHs. That was not always the case. Was Augusta Charlotte a Royal Highness or merely a Highness at the time? FearÉIREANN\(caint) 05:16, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

  • In the WP article British princess, it states that from 1714 to 1917, children and male-line grandchildren of the sovereign were accorded the style of His/Her Royal Highness, male-line great-grandchildren were accorded the style of His/Her Highness. So, as Augusta was the daughter of the Prince of Wales, I believe that Her Royal Highness is correct for her. Prsgoddess187 15:53, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] wrong person

this confuses Charlotte Augusta Hanover, Princess of Wales [1] with Augusta Hanover, Princess Royal of Great Britain and Ireland[2] --Snottily 00:24, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wrong person II

Why is the title of the article Princess Augusta Charlotte? Any other website than the National Portrait Gallery and the English Wikipedia refers her as Augusta (without Charlotte), and every literatur (in German) calls her Augusta Friedrike (Luise). -- Greetz Sir Gawain 00:49, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

BTW: The image shows her mother Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, see also [3] -- Sir Gawain 03:22, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
For your first point, I've found plenty which say Augusta Charlotte... I guess what we need are a few contemporary sources... And, as for your second, I've left a msg on the Commons talk page... DBD 23:02, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi! Could you please post some links (let's say 2 or 3) to such pages, that refers her as Augusta Charlotte? Thanks! -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 15:55, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
[4] [5] to start, more later; busy, sorry DBD 16:47, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi! Thanks for posting the links, but I have to state that they are of no value. The first page refers to Wikipedia's texts and it's obvious that the page names the persons the same way they are named here. And the second page is no liable source, because it makes the same mistake that lots of other pages make: it merges two different princesses called Augusta. The first is "our Augusta" here and the second is Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales (see the birth and death dates) whose picture is shown there. Any other (liable) pages (or even printed sources) available for proving the Charlotte naming of Augusta? Yes, I'm annoying ;-), but up to now I'm absolutely shure, that the naming of this article is wrong. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 23:36, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm getting rather the same impression (and even did when you first posted) – seeing as neither of us, after some effort, have come up with satisfactory sources, I encourage you to be bold DBD 02:02, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I was bold :-) But I'm not absolutely shure, that Augusta Frederika is the most common name for her in English sources, because the majority of my literature is in German. I also changed the image to a "prooved" one. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 15:09, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Princess Augusta, granted may not have been Augusta Charlotte, but I think we need some serious sources for Augusta Frederica before we can move her there... DBD 16:27, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
We'll also need sources for her supposedly being Princess Royal DBD 16:34, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
I've added two liable sources. One of them (Frauen vom Hof der Welfen) also confirms the title of Princess Royal. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 17:07, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
And your research shows a majority for Augusta Frederica over Augusta, yes? DBD 18:42, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, it does. But I've already stated above that (the majority of) my sources are in German. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 21:28, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Princess Royal

Royal.gov.uk – Princess Royal says that Augusta Frederica was patently not Princess Royal DBD 17:46, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I reverted the cat change. -- Sir Gawain (talk) 21:32, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
