The Prix du Palais Royal is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,400 metres (approximately 7 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse and takes place annually in late May or early June.
It was first run in 1968 and takes its name from the Palais Royal, a palace and garden in Paris. Prior to its launch there had been another race with a similar title, the Prix Palais Royal. Run at Saint-Cloud, this earlier race was named in honour of the horse Palais Royal, winner of the Prix Hocquart and the Cambridgeshire Handicap and runner-up in the St. Leger Stakes in 1928.
With the exception of the 1996 running at Deauville, the Prix du Palais Royal has continually taken place at Longchamp. The distance of the race has remained at 1,400 metres since its creation.
