Prix du Bois
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix du Bois is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for two-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,000 metres (approximately 5 furlongs) in late June or early July, currently at Maisons-Laffitte Racecourse.
It was first run in 1925 at Longchamp and takes its name from the Bois de Boulogne, where the racecourse is located, and the Avenue du Bois (which later became the Avenue Foch). It obtained its Group III status in 1982.
Aside from wartime cancellations between 1940 and 1945, the race continued to be run at Longchamp until 1994, returning two years later following the 1995 race at Chantilly. Since then it has been run at Deauville (1997, 1998 and 2003), Chantilly (1999-2002, 2004 and 2005), and Maisons-Laffitte (2006). The distance of the race has remained unchanged at each venue.
The 1978 Prix du Bois was won by the future French Horse Racing Hall of Fame colt, Irish River.
