Prix des Chênes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix des Chênes is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for two-year-old thoroughbred colts and geldings. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Longchamp Racecourse in September. It was first run in 1882.

For several years the race took place at various courses away from Longchamp, slightly later in the season in October or November. In 1989-90 and 1994 it was held at Saint-Cloud, in 1991-93 at Evry, and in 1995 at Chantilly. During this time fillies were also eligible to participate.

Notable runners from recent years not on the winners list include Dernier Empereur (second in 1992), Peintre Celebre (third in 1996) and Valixir (second in 2003).
