Prix de Ris-Orangis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix de Ris-Orangis is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,200 metres (approximately 6 furlongs) in July, currently at Deauville Racecourse.
It was first run in 1970 at Saint-Cloud as the Prix d'Evry, named after Evry Racecourse which was then under construction. In the following two years the race was run at Maisons-Laffitte before moving to Evry in 1973. At this point the race adopted its present title, named after Ris-Orangis, a commune in southern Paris where the racecourse was situated.
Since the closure of Evry Racecourse in 1996 the race has been run at Deauville, with the exception of 2006 when it was run at Maisons-Laffitte.
Prior to 1987 the race was contested over a distance of 1,600 metres (1 mile).
