Prix d'Aumale

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix d'Aumale is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for two-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Chantilly Racecourse in September.

It was first run in 1921 and is named in memory of Henri d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale (1822-1897), who bequeathed his Chantilly estate, including the racecourse, to its current owner, the Institut de France. The race was open to both sexes until 1966, when it was restricted to fillies only. It has been transferred away from Chantilly many times, most recently to Longchamp (1983-96 and 2002-03).

Another race by the same name had earlier been staged at Chantilly from 1835 until the end of the July Monarchy in 1848.
